Green City College Announces 6-Day Catering & Culinary Skills Training Programme

Green City College is pleased to announce an exciting 6-day intensive training programme in Catering and Culinary Skills, scheduled to take place from 13th – 18th April at the college’s training facility.

This programme, organized in collaboration with the Africa Centre for Health Leadership, is designed to equip participants with practical, hands-on culinary skills that can be immediately translated into income-generating opportunities.

Empowering Youth Through Practical Skills

In today’s rapidly changing economic environment, skills acquisition has become one of the most powerful tools for youth empowerment. Across Akwa Ibom State and Nigeria as a whole, many young people are seeking opportunities to build sustainable livelihoods outside traditional employment pathways.

The Catering and Culinary Skills Training Programme directly addresses this need by:
– Providing marketable, high-demand skills in food preparation and catering
– Encouraging entrepreneurship and self-reliance
– Creating pathways for small business development and job creation
– Supporting the growth of the local food and hospitality industry

Why This Training Matters Now

The timing of this programme is particularly significant, as it coincides with the Easter period—a season characterized by celebrations, gatherings, and increased demand for catering services

Participants will not only learn essential culinary techniques but will also gain insights into how to capitalize on seasonal opportunities to generate income.

What Participants Will Gain

The 6-day training will offer a rich blend of theory and practical sessions, covering:
– Professional cooking techniques
– Preparation of Nigerian and continental dishes
– Baking and pastry production
– Food presentation and plating
– Kitchen hygiene and food safety
– Menu planning and costing
– Basic catering business management

Who Should Apply

This programme is open to:
– Young people seeking employable skills
– Aspiring chefs and caterers
– Entrepreneurs interested in the food business
– Students and graduates
– Anyone passionate about cooking and food services

No prior experience is required.

Education Access and Skills Training Programme

ACHL collaborates with Green City College to operate a flagship educational institution committed to transforming lives through inclusive, high-quality education and skills development. The College runs a comprehensive learning system encompassing nursery, primary, and secondary schools, alongside a vibrant skills training programme designed to empower young people and adults with practical, market-relevant skills.

At the heart of our mission is the belief that every child—regardless of family income or social background—deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive. The Education Access and Skills Training Programme was established to break barriers that keep vulnerable children and youth out of school, offering scholarships, flexible payment options, and community-supported learning initiatives. Through this programme, Green City College extends the reach of quality education to families who cannot afford the cost of schooling, ensuring that no child is left behind.

Beyond formal education, our Skills Training Centre equips participants with vocational and entrepreneurial skills that enhance employability, self-reliance, and community development. We train individuals in areas such as technology, creative arts, craftsmanship, and business innovation and leadership skills —helping to build a generation of skilled and productive citizens.

We call on donors, development partners, corporate organizations, and government agencies to join hands with Green City College in scaling this impactful initiative. Together, we can expand access, upgrade learning facilities, provide scholarships, and deliver life-changing education and skills opportunities for those who need them most.

Through partnership and shared vision, we can make education a powerful equalizer—unlocking potential, reducing poverty, and shaping a brighter future for our children and communities. You can support this project by sponsoring a child or donating equipment and facilities, sponsoring a training program or supporting our expansion and scale up plan.
